Hello Friends
This blog-site chronicles the story of my Dad, Francis Joseph Pillay (1900-75), also known as Odiang, and our family. The chronicle comprises the following chapters (CLICK TO READ):
This is the Second Edition of the Story, which was first published in part on the Internet on 23 Jun 2011 and completed on 17 Dec 2012. I have added a section on Special Friends, and also a report of a visit to the Holy Land in 2004. The Story is now complete. God willing, I hope to capture the full story of my own family. Please read the Foreword – and Foreword 2 (Update).
I reviewed the histories of (a) the Chetty Malacca community and (b) the Malayan-Singapore Campaign of World War II, as part of the exercise. This has led me to publish two editions of The Chetti Melaka Story. I am also working with the Peranakan Indian (Chitty Melaka) Association Singapore to promote the information capture of Chetti Melaka Families in Singapore .
Thank you

I’m trying to get more info on this dr nakamura from malacca you mentioned. Do u know if he was made governor of malacca during the occupation years?
Dear David. It is intriguing that you should have picked up on Dr. Nakamura. I look forward to learning from you how this has come about. To answer your question: my Dad would have known if Malacca had a governor during the Japanese Occupation, and most certainly if Dr. Nakamura (our dentist) had been appointed the governor. The family would have talked of it at some stages. But there was nothing. It appears the answer is no. But if through other research
you have got hold of something, do let me know. Warmest Regards Gerald Pillay (gfpillay@singnet.com.sg))
Thanks Gerald. I’m in the midst of writing two books on the Japanese occupation – both are personal reflections. One is on the Bahau experience n the second is about a police officer n his involvement in allied intelligence. The latter mentioned that he arrested Dr Nakamura – am still trying to get more info on this guy. I know that he was detained briefly in singapore n then set free during the occupation.
Cheers
Thanks David. I look forward to any information on Dr. Nakamura you may surface. I shall look forward with great interest to your Bahau story. I did not think you belonged to the age group that lived in Bahau.
Lol nope that was way before my time. The book records my family’s time there.
Cheers
